The Pearl-ch.3

The news of Kino finding "the pearl of the world" spread throughout the town rapidly. Even faster than Kino getting back home. Everyone starts to dream of this pearl and what they will get if they have this pearl. The desire of this pearl is so deep that even the doctor that turn away from Kino wants it. But Kino and his wife disregard other people's jealousy, they invited the people in the town to share their joy. Kino even set up a plan-he wants to get marry with Juana, buy clothes, send Coyotito to school, and get a riffle. While Kino and his wife were intoxicated in the hope and changes that lies ahead their future, they didn't realize that other people too, were looking anxiously at their pearl.
Later on, the Priest came to visit Kino and gave idea for the wedding at the church. After the priest left, the doctor and his servant came to visit them too, they say they want to look at Coyotito's woe. Juana was suspicious of their insinuation, but Kino allow them to check. The doctor said that the poison is still in Coyotito's body just like what he thought, and he will be back within a hour to see. And as the time come, Coyotito's face starts to turn red, but Juana was suspicious about the doctor, for she see him injecting something into Coyotito's body, but they have no evidence.
The doctor came back and cure Coyotito, and then he ask when will Kino be able to pay the treatment. Kino reply back saying he will sell the pearl next morning and then he can pay. Then the doctor show his concern on the pearl and that he is willing to offer a safe place to keep it before it gets stolen, by hearing this, Kino reflectively glace at where he buried the pearl. After every one left, Kino was worried, so he reburied the pearl and then go to sleep. At night, Kino realize that someone got into his house and that person is searching for his pearl. So they were struggling and Kino got wounded and he bleed, then that person flee away. Juana was scared and declare that the pearl is evil, but Kino ignore her and believe that the pearl can bring great hope to their family.
Inside the story, Juana states that the pearl is evil, but is the pearl really "evil"? Well, the pearl is not evil, instead, the greed and jealous for that pearl is the root of evilness. The pearl itself is just an evil instrument. Many people may agree that greed and jealousy is what it is evil, but if we see the story in depth, doesn't Kino's ambition have something to do with this too? This chapter clearly illustrate Kino's desire of a better life from this pearl. He is so intoxicated into the dreams the pearl might help fulfill that he didn't realize that his lack of knowledge might be the barrier that keeps him from fulfilling his "plans"! Furthermore, Kino have been so focus in finding a place to hide the pearl that he is failing his duty of a father too. We can tell from the story how insist is Kino in giving an education to his son, maybe is because of the difference between the two "world" mention in the previous chapter. But so far, everyone is so focus on the good side of the pearl, even though blood was shed for it, Kino is not willing to let go. Only Juana recognize the pain the pearl might bring to her family.

The Pearl-ch.2

The second paragraph just simply talks about Kino searching for a Pearl. The doctor refused to heal them because they are poor, and Kino knew this, so he went out and trying to find a pearl (since that is his job). And at the end, he not just found a really big and beautiful pearl, his son Coyotito, is feeling better too!
In the second chapter, there are a really inspiring quotes, it say that, "It is not good to want a thing too much. You must want it just enough." And this quote is found in page 100, paragraph 2. I think this is a really true sentence that reflects on our thought. Often times we will want something so much that we forget what we had, we start to be greedy and self-center, just like the doctor. We should recognize how much we had and want for something "just enough". /For greed is the root of all evil

The Pearl-ch.1

This story talks about a Mexican Indian call Kino. His job is to dive and find pearl, he has a wife name Juana and a baby son call Coyotitio. One day, Coyotitio got positioned by a scorpion on his shoulder, so Juana, his mother, suck the venom out of his shoulder. They decided to bring their kids to the doctor, and everyone was surprised, because the doctor is kind of a higher class among them, so they wonder will he accept a request to help a little poor native boy.
Many people follow them as they went to see the doctor. When Kino got there, he ask the man working for the doctor to let them see the doctor, because his son is hurt. So he reported to the doctor and the doctor refused to heal them because they are poor.
There is a group problem inside the story, that that is the differences between the social class of the doctor and Kino. (page 96, 3 paragraph) Their race is like two seperate world. Kino may want to cross the line and enter the world of the doctor, (page 96, middle of 3 paragraph) but he can't, and the doctor simply just don't want to cross the line. (page 97, 4 sentence)
